Sony Xperia Ice Cream Sandwich update given thumbs up
Sony has posted a quick update on how the roll-out of Ice Cream Sandwich to its 2011 Xperia line up is going.
The short answer? It’s going pretty well considering the Android 4.0 roll-out only began in mid-April.
The Sony Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo and Xperia Ray updates are all "progressing as planned" with the global roll-out spreading across various countries according to schedule.
What a treat
If you’re wondering exactly when, where, how, and at what strike of the clock you’ll get the upgrade, you can head on over to the support forum which features a list of software kits that are customised to each handset on each network and do a spot of cross-referencing.
If you can’t see a mention of your own handset/network combo, it means your kit isn’t ready yet and you’ll have to check back later for the update.
After the neverending saga of the Gingerbread update for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, it’s excellent to see Sony being so on it with the Ice Cream Sandwich release. See, Sony fans – dreams do come true.

It looks like the Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia U will be washing up on UK shores a little later than expected, as a May 28 release date appears online.
We had originally heard, via online retailer Clove, that the Xperia P would arrive on May 7, however the website has now updated its stock prediction to May 28.
The Xperia P is currently available for pre-order from Clove for £330 SIM-free and the budget focussed Xperia U can be nabbed for £204.

If you’re on a tighter budget then you may want to opt for the Xperia U which features a 1GHz processor, 3.5-inch display, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, Android 2.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich coming a few months later too), a 5MP camera capable of taking 3D images and 720p video and 3D surround sound audio technology.
The Xperia P and Xperia U complete the trio of new handsets from Sony, which released the high-end Xperia S earlier this year.

Sony Xperia S reviewWe first saw the Xperia P at MWC 2012. It slides into Sony’s range below the fully-featured Xperia S and it will sit in the middle of a trio of handsets once the budget-focussed Xperia U arrives.

Available for pre-order today
The Xperia P has cropped up for pre-order on a couple of online retailers, with Clove pricing the handset at £330, while Expansys is asking for £339.
According to Clove, the first stock of the Xperia P is set to arrive during the week commencing May 7, which is less than 3 weeks away.
There’s currently no word on contract deals, but we reckon this mid-range phone will probably slot in at around £25 per month.

Xperia Arc SXperia RayXperia ArcXperia PlayXperia NeoXperia MiniThe news broke on the official Sony Xperia Product Blog, where the manufacturing giant revealed the update will be coming to the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray first in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Norway.
The update for these three phones will make its way to global markets in the next 4-6 weeks, so hold on tight if you’re not in Scandinavia.

Sony will roll out the update to more of the Xperia range towards the end of May/start of June including; Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.

When Sony does get round to pushing Ice Cream Sandwich to your Xperia phone you will need to connect it to your computer to download and install – no space-age over-the-air update here.
